How Does Invisalign Work?

Home/Insights/How Does Invisalign Work?

Having straight, beautiful teeth may seem out of reach for some patients. Whether it’s finances or the dread of wearing traditional braces that keep some individuals from working on their smile, there is a solution that costs less, works faster, and is hard for others to detect. It’s a state-of-the-art treatment called Invisalign.

Instead of using metal brackets and wires like traditional orthodontics, Invisalign utilizes clear aligner trays that pop on and off of your teeth. They are worn during the day, except when you’re eating, drinking, or brushing your teeth, and are worn overnight to slowly realign teeth into their proper places.

Invisalign treatment starts with a consultation appointment with Dr. Antonio to determine if you are an appropriate candidate for the procedure. Next, impressions will be taken of your teeth and translated into a 3D digital image. From this image, technicians are able to create a series of aligner trays. These trays are worn for approximately two weeks, and are then changed out for the next step. You may have as few as eight trays, or you may have twenty, all depending on the amount of work needed to get your teeth into proper alignment.

Invisalign will slowly move your teeth into place without the use of brackets and wires. Many patients love Invisalign because they don’t have to feel embarrassed about wearing metal braces, and they can remove them for easy cleaning of both the aligner trays and their own teeth. Braces have glue and wires that can make it difficult to properly brush and floss.

Invisalign is also within financial reach for most of our patients. Traditional metal braces will oftentimes cost more, take longer to address, and can be a source of embarrassment for grown adults. Many associate braces with teenagers, and if you are in a high-powered, high-energy career where you meet clients and customers face-to-face, metal braces may not be seen as a viable option.
